Advance placement programs is US (AP)
What is an advanced internship
program?
The College Council Advanced Placement
(AP) program is a rigorous academic program that provides motivated students
with the opportunity to continue their higher education through middle and high
school. The AP exam is offered in over 20 subjects and can help students excel
in the college application process, earn college credit, and build the skills
needed to enter college and beyond.
Indian students who are planning to travel
to the US, Canada, UK, Australia, Singapore or any other country for their
undergraduate studies can greatly benefit from taking AP courses and exams.
Founded in the 1950s, AP has been helping students realize their dreams of
higher education anywhere in the world for over 60 years. In 2017, over 2.2
million students worldwide took 4.5 million AP exams and submitted their
results to over 3,000 universities in over 60 countries.
Benefits :-
·
Taking AP courses helps
students stand out in the college application process by showing admissions
committees that they have completed the most rigorous curriculum. Because AP
grades reflect a student's commitment and ability to succeed at college level,
universities around the world positively reward students for taking AP courses
and exams.
·
AP exams allow students
to score higher in college or matriculation before they even start, so you can
get early credit (sometimes students can save a year), save on tuition, take
higher courses sooner and sooner. You can go to college. Time to go abroad or
do an internship. Over 90% of US universities offer credits, pre-admissions, or
both, based on successful AP exam results. In addition, all major universities
in Canada and the UK accept AP for admission, credit or internship, as do many
European universities. Loan policies vary from college to college, so students
should understand the policies of the colleges they are interested in. For US
college credit.
·
The AP program is awarded
to high school students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement at the
college level by taking AP courses and passing the (non-monetary) AP Scholar
Awards exams. Indian students also have the opportunity to earn an Advanced
International Diploma (APID) by scoring 3 or higher on five or more AP exams. Success
on the AP exam can also help students earn academic scholarships and awards
right out of college.
·
AP can help students
demonstrate their knowledge in certain areas of study, and it can also provide
students with the opportunity to study subjects they are interested in, but
which they cannot study at school. Some students take the AP exams to meet the
general higher education requirements.
·
AP courses and exams help
students develop the critical thinking, reasoning, problem solving, and
communication skills they need to succeed in college and beyond. This is
especially important in the Indian context, as teaching methods in Indian
institutions can sometimes be very different from those practiced abroad.
·
AP programs are
recognized by universities around the world, and AP exams are taken by students
in over 120 countries. A grade of 5 on the AP exam is interpreted the same
whether the student is from Nairobi, New Delhi or New York. As such, AP exams
allow Indian students to present results from standardized and globally
recognized academic programs when applying to a university.
AP tests are rated on a scale of 1 to
5 as follows:
5 -
very suitable
4 - suitable
3 - suitable
2 - most likely
1 - not suitable
The multiple-choice component of the exam
is scored by computer, while the free-answer and essay sections are graded
annually in June by trained AP readers. The scores for the various components
are weighted and combined into a composite raw score. The core reader of each
exam then determines the score limit for that year's exam, and then the
combined scores are converted into a final grade. During this process, several
checks and statistical analyzes are performed to ensure the reliability of the
ratings. The overall goal is for the rankings to reflect an absolute measure of
performance that can be compared from year to year.
Some colleges use AP scores to exempt
students from introductory courses, others use them to guide students to higher
professional courses, both. Each university has different rules, but most of
them require at least 3 or 4 credits to qualify for college credit.
Some colleges assign a fifth grade to an
A, but it is usually listed as a "CR" grade on college diplomas.
In some countries, such as Germany, where
U.S. high school diploma holders do not allow general admission to universities
and colleges without preparatory courses, students who pass certain AP exams
may be directly enrolled depending on the subject they wish to study there.
Completing AP courses also helps students
qualify for various types of scholarships. According to the College Council,
31% of colleges consider AP experience when determining scholarships.
Since the introduction of the AP exams in
May 2011, the College Board has changed the way AP exams are scored. The total
score in the multiple choice section is now based on the number of questions
answered correctly. Points will no longer be deducted for incorrect answers,
and points will no longer be awarded for unanswered questions as before.
However, the evaluation requirements have also been improved.
Who creates the AP content and what
subjects are offered on the exam?
Offered in 23 subjects in science, mathematics,
social sciences, languages and arts in India, AP courses and exams are
developed by US and international university faculty councils in collaboration
with experienced university faculty. AP committee members teach at world class
universities such as Columbia University, Harvard and the University of
Pennsylvania.
When can students take the AP exam
and what is the format of the exam?
AP
is flexible, allowing students to take as many exams as they wish in a given
year. Students usually take AP exams in 11th or 12th grade or both, although
some students take AP exams earlier in 9th or 10th grade. Some students choose
to take the AP exam between the year after high school and before college. AP
courses are taught in some schools in India, but students can also study on
their own and take the AP exam. The exam, held annually in May, is a mix of
multiple-choice and open-ended questions and lasts between 90 and 200 minutes
depending on the subject.
