The Rationale

The Victorian Curriculum is an Australian curriculum that consists of six main parts: the arts, the humanities, language and literacy, mathematics, science and technology, and social sciences. These main parts are divided up into a total of 20 subject areas. This curriculum is based on a theory called social constructivism which says that knowledge is constructed by individuals in their interactions with others. Social constructivism disagrees with traditional views of knowledge construction that say knowledge is transmitted from one generation to the next or from teachers to students.
